Ocho Sur Donates Over 18 Tons of Food to Flood-Affected Communities in Ucayali

Emergency response supports isolated indigenous and rural communities after severe flooding in the Lower Aguaytía River area.

PUCALLPA, UCAYALI, PERU, April 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In 2025, following severe flooding in Peru’s Ucayali region that left entire communities isolated and devastated crops, Ocho Sur delivered more than 18 tons of food supplies to support indigenous and rural populations along the Lower Aguaytía River.

Rising water levels flooded riverbank communities in Nueva Requena, cutting off access routes and destroying significant areas of subsistence farmland, leaving families without reliable food sources.

In response, Ocho Sur activated its emergency response protocols under its Social Responsibility Policy, mobilizing logistical and operational resources to provide immediate assistance to affected neighboring communities.

The company distributed essential food items including rice, pasta, oats, fariña, live chickens, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, carrots, cooking oil, sugar, salt, flour, garlic, beans, and milk. Deliveries were tailored based on each community’s population and the duration of the flooding.

A total of 18.195 metric tons of food supplies reached the native communities of Shambo Porvenir and Santa Clara de Uchunya; the population centers of Nueva Unión Progreso and Esperanza; and the villages of Tres Islas, Nueva Barranca, and Naranjal.

Community leaders highlighted the importance of timely support during the emergency, noting the critical role of food assistance in sustaining families during prolonged isolation.
